History of St. Bernard's
The first mission of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the United States was to begin a Catholic high school in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. In 1920, during the pastorate of Rev. James J. Donnelly at St. Bernard’s parish, the Sisters began a high school for young women named St. Bernard's High School. Eight students were educated in a commercial course and housed in the basement of St. Bernard’s Girls’ School.

Alumni Scholarships
Since 2002, the St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School Alumni Association has awarded a scholarship to an incoming freshman and a graduating senior each year. The motivation for this idea came from Ronald Ingemie, a 1966 graduate who served as the Alumni Association president since 1999. Ingemie passed away in April at the age of 58.
In honor of Ingemie, the Alumni Association has renamed the senior scholarship, The Ronald B. Ingemie Alumni Scholarship. Because he was dedicated to serving the community, participation in community service has been added as one of the criteria for application.
Donations to this scholarship may be sent to: Ronald B. Ingemie Scholarship Fund, St. Bernard’s C.C.H.S., 45 Harvard St., Fitchburg, MA 01420. Please make checks out to the Alumni Association. A list of donors will be forwarded to his family.

A Lasting Gift
Alternative gifts benefit donors and the school.
Bequest
A bequest includes St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School in a will or revocable trust. This gift may be valued for a specific amount or asset, a percentage of the estate, or by other variables. A charitable bequest provides federal estate tax savings and is not subject to federal or state inheritance or estate taxes.
Life Insurance
A donor may name St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School as an irrevocable beneficiary of a life insurance policy no longer needed for family protection. The donor may also designate St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School as the contingent beneficiary in the event that a primary beneficiary predeceases the donor. The gift of a life insurance policy allows the donor to take an immediate income tax deduction based on the current cash value of the insurance policy. All future premiums paid by the donor are tax deductible.
Gift of Securities
Making a gift of securities can be more advantageous than giving cash. A gift of appreciated securities entitles the donor to an income tax charitable deduction for the fair market value of the securities. In the case of securities that have been held for more than one year, the capital gains tax is waived.
