Class of 1974 Reunion

Kathy (Joseph) Jordan is looking for people to be on a committee to prepare for our 35th class reunion. She suggests that we hold it at the St Bernard's High School because the use of the cafeteria is free. She also suggests that we do pot luck and make it really casual and cost effective. Anyone interested in contacting her can email her at mrskaj@juno.com or by calling her at 978-874-5472

If anyone who is not listed with an email in the alumni directory, please forward to anyone you know in the class that you have contact with so we can make sure we get everyone.. thanks

Archive Room

If you have any memorabilia you would like to donate to the school, please bring it in or send it to the Alumni Office. Programs, yearbooks, pins, uniforms, class rings, sports momentos are welcome!

Currently we have at least one copy of every "Blue & Gold" newspaper published. We are also keeping a file on each class. You are welcome to come in, copy what you'd like, and use it for your reunion. We also welcome any additions to the Archives.

Field House at the Bernardian Bowl

The Field House at the Bernardian Bowl was renovated last summer. First, demolition included stripping the building to bare concrete, including stripping the roof down to the wooden trusses. All plumbing, heating, and electrical was removed and replaced. Then came the new roof, ceilings, lockers, showers, toilets, sinks, windows, lighting, locks, alarm system, freezer, fans, & utility room. It is better than brand new! This project was possible due to the generous contributions of time, skilled labor, materials, and financial support by coaches, parents, alumni, students, and businesses. Because of this generosity, out of pocket expense dropped from $100,000 to $40,000. To contribute to this project, make checks payable to St. Bernard's H.S. football. Mail to: 45 Harvard St., Fitchburg, MA 01420.

History of St. Bernard's

The first mission of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the United States was to begin a Catholic high school in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. In 1920, during the pastorate of Rev. James J. Donnelly at St. Bernard’s parish, the Sisters began a high school for young women named St. Bernard's High School. Eight students were educated in a commercial course and housed in the basement of St. Bernard’s Girls’ School.

Reunions and Events

Be sure to check out the list of reunions and events posted to the left in "Upcoming Events".  If you are a planner of a future event, be sure to read "Event planning information / add an event" for tips and information to make your event a success.

Alumni Scholarships

Since 2002, the St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School Alumni Association has awarded a scholarship to an incoming freshman and a graduating senior each year. The motivation for this idea came from Ronald Ingemie, a 1966 graduate who served as the Alumni Association president since 1999. Ingemie passed away in April at the age of 58.

In honor of Ingemie, the Alumni Association has renamed the senior scholarship, The Ronald B. Ingemie Alumni Scholarship. Because he was dedicated to serving the community, participation in community service has been added as one of the criteria for application.

Donations to this scholarship may be sent to: Ronald B. Ingemie Scholarship Fund, St. Bernard’s C.C.H.S., 45 Harvard St., Fitchburg, MA 01420. Please make checks out to the Alumni Association. A list of donors will be forwarded to his family.

A Lasting Gift

Alternative gifts benefit donors and the school.

Bequest
A bequest includes St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School in a will or revocable trust. This gift may be valued for a specific amount or asset, a percentage of the estate, or by other variables. A charitable bequest provides federal estate tax savings and is not subject to federal or state inheritance or estate taxes.

Life Insurance
A donor may name St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School as an irrevocable beneficiary of a life insurance policy no longer needed for family protection. The donor may also designate St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School as the contingent beneficiary in the event that a primary beneficiary predeceases the donor. The gift of a life insurance policy allows the donor to take an immediate income tax deduction based on the current cash value of the insurance policy. All future premiums paid by the donor are tax deductible.

Gift of Securities
Making a gift of securities can be more advantageous than giving cash. A gift of appreciated securities entitles the donor to an income tax charitable deduction for the fair market value of the securities. In the case of securities that have been held for more than one year, the capital gains tax is waived.

Golden Graduates

A New Tradition Begins!

The Class of 1959 will be honored as Golden Graduates at this year's Senior Awards Night and Graduation.

The Class of 1958 Celebrates with the Class of 2008

Fifty years after they graduated, members of the class of 1958 were included in Graduation celebrations. On Senior Awards Night, held at Four Points Sheraton, twenty-one members of the class of 1958 received Golden Diplomas. They led the procession at Graduation at the Bernardian Bowl on May 30, 2008.

The Telegram & Gazette ran a wonderful article, which you can find at:

Fitchburg Pride also had a piece on the front page on May 30th, which can be found at: http://www.fitchburgpride.com/news/2008/0530/Front_page/002.html

Grandparents Day Breakfast

On Monday, April 13, 2009 St. Bernard's CCHS held their 2nd Grandparents Day Breakfast. Grandparents were able to come in to the school and visit with their grandchild while being able to get a tour of the school and even see a few numbers from the school musical "Annie". Pictures from the event are shown above in the first photo gallery.
